Weekly Summaries

Week 15 Summary

This final week of ds106 was focused on completing our final project. My final project, titled All About Edward, can be found here. We had to use at least four different types of media for our final project, and I ended up using video, audio, writing, and design. Some of the assignments that I incorporated had already been created earlier in the course, while some were created specifically for this project. Additionally, all of the audio of Edward talking was created this last week, using Audacity and then uploading it to Soundcloud.

It was a little challenging at first to know what all to write about and what kind of media to create, but once I got started, it all came to me a lot easier. I really enjoyed creating the project, and looking back through my work to see what I could incorporate into it. It was a lot of fun, and I believe that I have learned a lot about the different types of media that we have experimented with. I also really liked the idea behind my host character Edward Creeper, and had a lot of fun creating a background story for him.

Along with the final project, I completed the final showcase for ds106, found here. I also commented on all of the final project posts up to this point, and will continue to do so for the rest of the week.

I’m definitely relieved now that everything has been completed and turned in, but looking back, I am glad that I got to experience this course and I definitely feel a sense of accomplishment. Good luck to everyone else with their projects, and I can’t wait to see the rest!

Edward’s Story (Week 13)

After browsing through some ideas from others for our final project, I really liked the thought of being able to tell more of the story behind my character, Edward Creeper. I hope to add background on Edward’s childhood, how he became a radio host, and what makes him the way he is now. I will be using several different types of media for this project, and am definitely planning on using video, audio, writing and photography as a start. I’ll be using some of the assignments already completed for this course, along with ones I have not attempted yet. If there is anything you guys would like to know specifically about Edward Creeper, feel free to leave me a comment and I can try to work it into the story. I am very much looking forward to seeing what I can come up with, and seeing all of the other DS106 projects!

Week 12 Summary

This week in DS106 we focused on mashups and remixes. This was probably the most enjoyable week I’ve had so far, as I had a lot of fun creating all of the assignments.

I completed 10.5 stars of mashup assignments, including J.D. Scrubs Mashup, the Contest Nobody Could Win, This Doesn’t Belong Here, and a Halloween Songs Mashup.

I also did 2 remix assignments this week, Bucket List and Color Changer.

Finally, I completed two daily creates, which I added in this post, and I commented on 10 different posts from DS106, posted here.

All in all, a fun and less stressful week than usual!

Week 11 Summary

This week was very busy for me, both in this class and outside of it. I was not able to complete the 4 star documentary assignment, unfortunately.

However, I completed the other 12 stars of video assignments, including the Redskins Pump-up Video, I am Edward, and the Dark Knight Chipmunk Style.

I commented on 10 different posts from Ds106, which I included in this blog post. I also completed my three daily creates, which I linked here.

This was another fun week working with video assignments, but the time got away from me a little quicker than I was expecting.

Week 10 Summary

This week was all about the power of video!

I completed 10 stars worth of video assignments, including a highlight reel of Tyrod Taylor, Edward’s dream location, and a surfing compilation.

I did two daily creates, which I posted in this blog post. I also commented on 10 different posts from DS106.

Finally, I completed my video essay on the Bride of Frankenstein.

I enjoyed messing around with the video resources this week, so I look forward to more of the same next week!

Week 9 Summary

We didn’t have a whole lot of assignments this week in ds106, but it was still busy for me.

Earlier this week, I posted my weekly showcase for week 8.

I listened to the great ds106 radio shows this week, and wrote up a blog post on the Smooth and Spooky Variety Show which played on Tuesday night.

I completed 10 stars of collaborative character assignments, including a dinner with the Red Reaper, lunch with Victor Barethean, and Make my Day. I also completed my three daily creates, which I included in this blog post.

Finally, I commented on 10 different posts from ds106, which I included in this blog post.

Week 8 Summary

This week was all about our radio show, and we spent most of our time working on writing a script, and recording our lines so that they could be combined and edited for the finished product. To summarize our radio show, I put up a post for our week 2 progress update. Here is the direct link to our radio show, which is on SoundCloud.

This week, I also completed three daily creates, linked here, and commented on 10 different posts.

Even though we did not have a whole lot of assignments this week, it was still very busy as we tried to have the radio show done with some time to spare. I am looking forward to hearing it live on ds106 radio!

Week 7 Summary

Week 7 in ds106 was all about our radio show. I was a bit worried about this at first, as I was not sure what I wanted to do, or who I could be in a group with. However, I found three other classmates (Ellen, Felicia, and Gussie) and we started to develop ideas for the Edward Creeper Show. This weekend we will be hard at work making content for the show, so that our finished product hopefully is interesting and exciting to listen to.

This week I posted a progress update for our show, and designed a promo logo/poster. I also did 10 stars worth of audio assignments, including Roller Coaster Freaks, a Reverse Audio Quiz, and Music Mashup. Finally, I commented on 10 different posts from this week, which I included in this blog post.

I look forward to what our completed radio show will sound like next week!

Week 6 Summary

This week was all about design, so I spent many hours in the ITCC trying to learn how to use Photoshop. I had some challenges with some of the concepts this week early on, but it all turned out fine.

This week, I reflected on the Vignelli Canon, and how some of the elements discussed in the booklet still effect design today. I did the Love at First Shot assignment, where I talked about my grandparents and how they met. I also did a DesignBlitz, where I showed how four different pictures related to a specific design concept.

I completed three daily creates this week, which I linked to in this blog post. I did 12 stars worth of design assignments, including Vintage-ify a Place, Who am I?, Dog it Out, and creating a motivational poster.

Finally, I watched the movie Black Sabbath on Netflix, and discussed how different types of design affected the story.

All in all, a fun and challenging week which allowed me to become more acquainted with design editors such as Photoshop.

Week 5 Summary

This week was all about audio, which was interesting and a bit challenging for me as I have never experimented much with audio creation devices, such as Audacity and SoundCloud.

This week I brainstormed some ideas for our future Radio Show, and created a Radio Bumper. I also participated in a live tweet-along of Ds106 radio, which can be found on my Twitter page.

I completed three daily creates, which I posted into this blog entry. I also completed 10 stars worth of audio assignments, including creating spooky sounds, symbolizing a certain emotion (sadness) through sounds, and telling a story using only sound effects.

This week there were several reading and listening assignments that we had to complete. These included an analysis from Tales of The Crypt: Last Laugh, an analysis of Moon Graffiti, and reflections of audio storytelling (including our reflections of Ds106 radio).

This was a very busy week for me, but was, as usual, very interesting and informative.
